Local Water Done Well

In February and March this year, we asked you to have your say on who manages Palmy's water in the future.

In June, elected members confirmed Palmerston North will partner with Horowhenua and Rangitīkei District Councils on a new regional water organisation. Since then we've confirmed the name of the new organisation: Central Districts Water.

Whanganui and Ruapehu District Councils were invited to join, but in July chose to team up together to form a separate entity.

Key milestones

  • August: adopted our joint Water Services Delivery Plan.
  • November: the government approved the plan, and we confirmed the name of the new organisation.
  • December: we confirmed the governance framework that will ensure water services continue to be locally overseen, locally managed and locally accountable.
