On Wednesday 4 June, elected members confirmed Palmerston North City Council will partner with other councils on a new regional water organisation.

Council adopts Water Services Delivery Plan and submits it to government

The government confirms if it accepts the plan or not. If Council's plan isn't accepted, the Minister can appoint a Crown facilitator or water specialist to provide an acceptable plan

November 2025 to July 2027

Implementation period

30 June 2028

Either Council or water organisation must prove financial sustainability.
