Fur-ever dog tags and registration

You keep the same fur-ever tag for your dog each year. We won’t send you a new tag when you renew your registration.

Keep your existing tag

If your dog already has a fur-ever tag, hold on to it. You’ll use the same tag every year.

What this means for you

Fur-ever tags are made from recycled plastic and designed to last your dog’s lifetime.

They help make registration:

  • simpler to manage
  • more sustainable
  • easier for you.

A dog models one of the new lifetime tags, coloured green and labelled 'Palmy'.

Renewing your dog’s registration

You still need to renew your dog's registration every year.

Once you’ve paid, your dog will be registered in our system. Your tag stays the same.

Each tag is linked to one dog and can’t be used for another. If you register a new dog, we’ll send you a new tag.

If your tag is lost or damaged, contact us and we’ll send a replacement.

Registration and identification

Our animal management officers can identify your dog using the tag number.

Your dog must also be microchipped. This is required under the Dog Control Act 1996. You need to arrange this within 2 months of first registration.
