Help us trial a bigger recycling bin

Registrations for the trial are now closed. We had an amazing response, with hundreds of people signing up, so we were able to close registrations early.

A huge thank you to everyone who expressed an interest in taking part. If you registered, keep an eye on your inbox – you can expect to hear from us by 4 September.

The trial runs from mid-September until the end of January, and will help us understand whether larger recycling bins could help households recycle more and put fewer recyclable items in their rubbish.

Who we’re looking for

We’d like to hear from households who:

  • often fill up your 240L recycling bin before collection day
  • regularly have recycling that doesn’t fit in the bin
  • sometimes put recyclable items in your rubbish because your recycling bin is full
  • regularly take extra recycling to one of our recycling drop-off points
  • are happy to take part for four-and-a-half months and give us feedback during and after the trial.

We'll select 50 households from across Palmerston North to get a mix of households and locations. Registering your interest doesn't guarantee you a place in the trial.

What you’ll need to do

If you’re selected, you’ll receive a 360L recycling bin to use from mid-September until the end of January.

During the trial, we’ll monitor:

  • how often you put your bin out for collection
  • how full your bin is
  • whether it contains items that can’t be recycled.

We’ll let you know by 4 September whether or not you’ve been selected.
