Battery recycling

Recycle your batteries free at the Ferguson Street Recycling Centre.

Staff at the Ferguson Street Recycling Centre will accept household quantities of old and unwanted batteries during opening hours. Quantities over 2kg will incur a charge.

Batteries accepted for recycling

  • single use and rechargeable batteries such as AA, AAA, C, D and 9V batteries
  • batteries from handheld devices such as mobile phones, laptops, toys, torches, cordless power tools and stereos.

We will not accept damaged, rusted or leaking batteries. You need to dispose of these in your rubbish.

Why recycle batteries?

Council is committed to finding ways to reduce waste and our city’s impact on the environment.

Batteries contain harmful chemicals and heavy metals that can pollute the environment. When batteries are recycled these metals can be recovered and used again.
