Youth Space, a place rangatahi can call their own
Youth Space, next to the Central Library, is a safe and welcoming hub for young people aged 13 to 19. Rangatahi can relax, connect with friends, try new activities, learn skills, or simply hang out. All activities are free.
The space includes a youth library, public computers, sports equipment, musical gear, arts and crafts supplies, a PS5 and Xbox, a small stage and more. Young people can also get support and guidance from the Youth Services team and take part in daily activities.
The monthly activity schedule is partly youth-led, giving rangatahi the chance to design and run events. Recent activities include cooking classes, karaoke nights, origami workshops, sewing, PS5 tournaments, talent quests, and a rainbow youth ball.
Youth Space is available for community bookings
Part or all of the venue can be booked at no or low cost. Priority is given to youth-led events or activities that support youth development.
