Albert Street river entrance toilet installation
- Completion Date31 March 2026
We're putting in an accessible toilet at the Albert Street river entrance, building on previous improvements to the area.
The new facility will make the popular riverside spot more comfortable and accessible for everyone who visits.
In June 2025, elected members reviewed several possible sites for the new toilet and approved the Albert Street river entrance as the preferred location.
The new facility will include:
- One accessible cubicle with the door facing the river
- A drinking fountain
- An accessible carpark
The design positions the door towards the river to maintain privacy for nearby residents and keep the facility aligned with the natural setting of the river environment.
The first stage of work involves installing new wastewater and water pipes and connections to service the future toilet. This work is scheduled to start on Wednesday, 29 October (weather permitting) and will take around four weeks to complete.
During this time:
- Machinery and safety fencing will be in place.
- Pedestrian and cyclist access will remain open via existing footpaths.
- A short temporary water shutdown will affect some nearby homes (residents will be notified in advance).
- The cul-de-sac near the river entrance may be closed at times.
- A few carparks near the work area will be temporarily unavailable.
The new toilet will be built off-site and then brought in for installation around March 2026.
