Nathan, Environmental Health Coordinator

A familiar face to Palmy hospitality is bringing his industry experience to a new role at Council.

Nathan has recently joined the team as Council’s new Environmental Health Coordinator, a role established to help strengthen the way we work with hospitality businesses across food safety, alcohol licensing and environmental health.

For Nathan, building constructive relationships with local operators will be a big part of the job.

"I want businesses to feel they can come to us for guidance and get practical information about what’s expected of them. There will always be a regulatory part of the role, but good regulation should also be clear and focused on achieving positive outcomes."

Nathan brings a strong understanding of the sector, having previously worked in hospitality here in Palmy. His background also spans operational management, education and regulatory compliance.

That hospitality experience means he understands first-hand some of the realities local operators face – from staffing pressures and customer expectations to the everyday challenges of running a busy venue.

"I’m really looking forward to getting out and meeting more local operators and hearing directly about what’s working well and where we can improve."

One of Nathan’s priorities will be looking at how Council can make its food safety and alcohol licensing processes clearer and easier to navigate, while improving communication with businesses.

It ties in with wider work underway at Council to review and improve some of the systems and processes used to manage food and alcohol licences and certificates.

And when he’s not talking food safety and licensing? You’ll likely find Nathan outdoors, listening to music or getting to grips with farm life.

"It’s a great change of pace – and there’s always something new to learn."
