How to cast a special vote

If you haven't enrolled by 1 August, or you are on the unlisted electoral roll for personal reasons, you may need to cast a special vote.

Who can cast a special vote

You can cast a special vote if you:

  • haven’t received a voting pack in your letterbox by 15 September 2025
  • have lost or damaged your voting pack
  • have not enrolled yet
  • enrolled or updated your address details after 1 August 2025
  • are eligible to vote but your name does not appear on the final electoral roll

To cast a special vote, you must be enrolled and your details up to date by 10 October at the latest. Head to vote.nz or visit our Customer Service Centre.

You can make a special vote at the Rock around the clock - a big vote event on Saturday, 27 September.

You can cast a special vote at our Customer Service Centre, 32 Te Marae o Hine The Square during the voting period from Tuesday 9 September 2025 until 12pm on Saturday 11 October 2025.

Customer Service Centre opening hours:

  • 8.30am to 4.30pm, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
  • 9am until 4.30pm on Wednesdays
  • 2pm to 5pm, Saturday, 27 September
  • 9am to 12pm, Saturday 11 October

You can also come to our libraries on Saturdays during the voting period. The locations are:

  • Ashhurst Library
  • Awapuni Library
  • Central Library, Oroua Room (entrance off George Street)
  • Roslyn Library
  • Te Pātikitiki Library

You can also request a special vote

If you can't make it to a special voting location, we can send your special vote papers to you. To request your papers, please call 06 356 8199.

Please ensure you make your request early in the voting period, so you have enough time to return your vote to the Electoral Officer by 12pm, 11 October 2025.
