We've shortlisted four names for the upgraded Pasifika Community Centre, and now we're asking you to help us choose by telling us which names you prefer.
In September, we invited you to help shape the identity of the new Pasifika Community Centre, which is currently under construction and due to be completed later this year.
Thank you to everyone who shared a naming suggestion. We appreciate the time, thought and cultural knowledge contributed by our communities.
The Pasifika Project Control Group considered the suggestions and shortlisted four names for community voting. The group includes representatives from Pasifika organisations, the Pasifika Reference Group and the wider Pasifika community.

Please read the short description for each name before ranking your preferences. The descriptions reflect feedback received through the naming process and from members of the Pasifika Project Control Group.
The shortlisted names are now being brought back to the community before the preferred options progress to the next stage.
The Pasifika Community Centre
Keeping the existing name recognises the history and identity of the Centre and provides continuity for the Pasifika community in Palmerston North. Community feedback described the name as familiar, inclusive of different Pacific communities, easy to recognise and already widely used. Retaining it would also acknowledge the elders, pioneers and community members who supported the Centre and its name over many years.
The Moana Pasifika Unity
This name reflects unity, connection and the shared relationship many Pacific cultures have with the ocean. It also recognises the contribution of young people, as this option came directly from youth involved in the naming process. The name represents Pasifika communities moving forward together while remaining connected through the Moana.
Pasifika Moana Centre
This name brings together Pasifika identity and the shared oceanic heritage of Pacific peoples. It reflects cultural connection and aligns with the Pacific design elements incorporated into the new Centre.
Manawatū Pasifika Centre
This name connects the Centre with Manawatū, the region that Pasifika communities call home. It reflects regional pride and the connection Pasifika communities have built with this place, while clearly identifying the Centre as a space for Pasifika communities.
