Central Government has given us 3 months to come up with an amalgamation plan. Share your feedback with us by 4pm, 30 June.
If you're planning to build a second home on your property under the new granny flats exemption, you need to get a PIM before you start work. Use the forms on this page to apply.
The granny flats building consent exemption allows you to build a new, standalone, single-storey dwelling up to 70 square metres without a building consent, provided you meet all exemption conditions and engage a licensed building practitioner.
You are legally responsible for compliance with the Building Code and exemption conditions under the Building Act 2004.
For detailed advice and guidance, including step-by-step guides and checklists, refer to the government's Building Performance website.
