Soft plastics recycling trial
From July, you'll be able to recycle your soft plastics right here in Palmerston North.
Don't bring us your soft plastics yet
We'll share more details about the trial soon, including where you can drop off your soft plastics.
Start saving the right items at home now, ready for when the trial begins
You'll be able to recycle common soft plastic items, for example:
- bread bags
- bubble wrap
- cereal and snack food bags
- chip packets and confectionery wrappers (lightly foiled)
- courier bags
- dairy product wraps and bags
- frozen food bags
- pet food bags (dry food only)
- toilet paper and paper towel wrapping.
Try the scrunch test
Not sure if it's recyclable? Scrunch it into a ball. If it stays scrunched, it can usually be recycled through this trial.
What won't be accepted
Some soft plastics can't be recycled. We won't be accepting these items:
- compostable plastic bags
- disposable gloves
- face masks
- food and drink containers
- tin foil.
