Roadworks and road closures

Higgins are installing a new watermain for the Defence Force on Camp Road, in Linton, which is under a one way lane closure.

Whitmore Road is being used as a detour route. Higgins expect to be off Camp Road and into army camp land by Christmas. You can still get into Camp Road during this time, but exiting is via Whitmore Road.

We’re upgrading the water pipes along Churchill Avenue starting at Franklin Avenue and progressing gradually towards Albert Street.

Work is expected to run until March next year. Our crews will generally work Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.

Stage 1 covers from Franklin Avenue to Epsom Road and is split into two parts:

Stage 1A: (Franklin Ave to Winston Ave)

• The lane heading towards Franklin Ave, or in the direction of the river, will be closed.
•  Detours will be in place as the pipes are in the middle of the road – see the traffic management diagram over the page.
• You can travel towards the Albert Street end.

Stage 1B: (Winston Ave to Epsom Rd)

• The same lane heading towards Franklin Ave or the river will again be closed.
• Detours will be updated—see the Stage 1B diagram.
• Anyone entering from side streets will be able to turn towards Albert St, but not towards Franklin Ave.

Stage 2 will cover Woodstock Avenue to Albert Street.

We’re upgrading the stormwater network on Coventry Street and Hull Place until December.

This includes upgrading the size and condition of the stormwater pipes to reduce the risk of flooding on both streets. Our crew will be working between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

We’ve attached a map of the worksite and traffic management plan below. We will be based in Hull Place for the first few weeks of the project. This means Hull Place will be closed. We’ll then move into Coventry Street. During work hours, Coventry Street will be closed at the intersection with Botanical Road, but it will reopen each night.

Construction to improve the “five dips” section of Kelvin Grove Road is planned to start this summer.

The work will focus on smoothing the five dips, widening the road, installing culverts or drains, and likely require extended road closures and detours.

Due to budget, we’ll be spreading the work across the next couple of summers. The first section this summer is from Stoney Creek Road to Garrick Lane. The remaining section from Garrick Lane to Henaghans Road will be completed later.

We are currently meeting with residents in the first section to discuss the project and any impact to their property. From later this year, we’ll reach out to residents from Garrick Lane to Henaghans Line to do the same.

We’re upgrading the wastewater pipes on Maxwells Line, from Totara Road to Tip Road. We expect to finish at Christmas.

The upgrade is being completed in two stages:

• Stage 1 : Totara Road to Slacks Road
• Stage 2 : Slacks to Tip Road

Most of the work will be done in stage one with the road closed. Detours will be in place. The road will return to normal each night. Vehicle speeds will be reduced to 30 km/h.

This shows the traffic management plan for Stage 2 – which is a one lane closure under a stop/go.

We’re finalising designs to start the rebuild of a section of Stoney Creek Road later this year, from Kelvin Grove Road through to Whakarongo School. This work includes widening and future proofing the road.

Construction will be split into two stages:

• Stage 1 (summer 2025/2026): From Kelvin Grove Road to just past Hendersons Line
• Stage 2 (2026/2027): From Hendersons Line to Whakarongo School

Each stage is expected to involve full road closures and detours, which we will communicate ahead of time.

The work involves improvements to the road, footpaths, and stormwater management along a 450m section of Wyndham Street between Oxford Street and Cambridge Avenue.

The upgrade includes:

• Rebuilding, chipsealing, and widening the road to allow for a shoulder
• Repairing the Oxford Street intersection
• Installing new kerb and channel for stormwater
• Constructing new footpaths and vehicle crossings
• Adjusting berms where footpaths currently exist (these may be slightly smaller), and adding new berms on the southern side to border the new kerb, channel, and footpath

Work will start with the footpaths, followed by roadworks towards the end of the project. Construction will begin at the Oxford Street end, on the northern side of the road (even-numbered properties, where there’s currently no footpath).

Early next year, crews will move to the other side. This approach helps reduce dust and, more importantly, keeps one side of the road open. During this time, Wyndham Street will operate as a one-way road for residents.

We expect to complete the work in June 2026.
