Hosting a homestay

Homestay hosting offers a unique opportunity to experience another culture from a young person’s perspective. Our international education partners are always on the lookout for local households to host students from different countries.

Hosting a student also provides a chance to share the beauty of Palmerston North and New Zealand with someone from abroad. Many international partners prefer homestay accommodations because they offer students an authentic experience within a Kiwi family, helping them connect with the local culture on a deeper level. Homestays can range from a short-term stay of just one week to longer stays, such as hosting high school students for up to five years. Hosts receive a weekly payment from the educational institution, and the busiest months for international student arrivals in Palmerston North are typically March and July.

Homestay hosts can be families, single parents, or retired couples. Hosts are encouraged to maintain their usual routines, and the institution provides ongoing support throughout the hosting experience. To ensure suitability, homes are visited, and hosts are required to undergo a police check.

For more information on hosting a student please get directly in touch with the education provider.
