Are you building a career, craft, or cause, and have a destination in mind that could take your impact even further? Applications are now open for the 2025 Jaycee Trust Travelling Fellowship Fund, which supports ambitious young people from Palmerston North to gain new skills, grow professionally, and bring valuable knowledge back to their communities.

Palmerston North locals aged under 40 can apply for up to $5,000 to help cover travel costs for study or a special project whether it's here in New Zealand or overseas.

Governance Manager, Hannah White says the fund is a fantastic launchpad for future leaders.

“This is an amazing opportunity for anyone with talent, passion and a goal. Past recipients have danced on world stages, studied in South America, competed in international sport, and come back with stories, skills, and inspiration to share.”

Meet some of last year’s inspiring recipients

An up-and-coming Manawatū gymnast, Zahara Slatter, trained at a world-class gym in Texas before taking out 1st place overall at the World Olympic Gymnastics Academy Classic (Level 9 Senior). Since returning, she’s become a voice for young women in sport through Sport Manawatū’s See Her, Be Her campaign and is applying to join their Youth Advisory Panel.

After months of training six days a week, Kayla Carne travelled to China with the NZ Under-21 Women’s Canoe Polo team, where they earned a bronze medal at the World Champs. She’s now trialling for the Oceania team and has her sights set on the 2026 World Champs in Germany.

Joseph Fitzpatrick-Bryant represented NZ at the 2025 Special Olympics Winter World Games in Italy. After battling through injury and tough conditions, he brought home a bronze medal in slalom skiing. His determination and courage has made Manawatū so proud.

And finally, Kate Blincoe helped lead the NZ Senior Women’s Canoe Polo team to a World Championship win, beating Italy in the final. Now coaching the NZ Under 21 Women’s team, Kate says the fund helped her grow as both an athlete and a leader.

“The trust fund, which is administered by the Council, has helped some incredible young people take their passions to the world and bring those experiences home,” says Mrs White.

“If you’ve got a dream and a plan, we’d love to hear from you.”

Applications close on Friday 8 August. For more information or to apply, visit Jaycee Trust Travelling Fellowship Scheme
