Palmerston North City Council has reviewed its fees and charges for a range of services. These new fees were approved at Council meetings on 11 February 2026 and 8 May 2026 and will take effect from 1 July 2026.
What's changing
Many fees will stay the same, including those for planning services, environmental health services and parking. Some will increase, including:
- Trade waste – changes vary for types of charges but overall increase is approx 15%
- Food control, noise, vehicle crossing inspections, building – most fees increase by approx 3.7%
- Burial fees increase by approx 3% and adult cremation fees by 6.4%
- Resource recovery – increases vary but include e-waste and the Ashhurst Transfer station
- Sportsfields – increases of approx 3%
- Swimming pools – increase of 70 cents for adults and 50 cents for children

Dog registration fees are set under the Dog Control Act 1996. Disability assist and specified agency are as defined in section 2 of the Act.
If a dog has been classified as a dangerous dog, its registration fee will be 50% higher than the standard registration fee for that dog.
