The future use of 17 Summerhays Street

Dilapidated building on overgrown land with long grass and weeds.

We proposed some changes for how the former Terrace End Bowling Club site might be used in the future. Following consultation in mid-2021, Council has decided to repurpose this land for housing.

The Terrace End Bowling Club merged with the Northern Bowling in mid-2020. The existing building faces security and compliance risks that mean it will need to be demolished. This freed up the site to consider what its future use could be.

Initial consultation in June-July 2021

Before making a formal decision on the future use of the site, we asked you for feedback on our preferred option and the alternatives outlined in the statement of proposal. You can read this below, along with a summary of the submissions we received.

Next steps

To achieve Council's preferred use, we'll need to amend the District Plan to rezone the balance of land to residential.

We'll incorporate this zone change into our upcoming medium-density residential plan change, which is currently being prepared.

We aim to consult in 2024.
