Ashhurst residents asked to continue conserving water tonight

Ashhurst residents are being asked to continue conserving water tonight while crews repair a burst water main between the treatment plant and the village reservoir.

The water main burst overnight and reservoir levels are dropping quickly. Repairs are expected to continue until at least 8pm.

To help ensure there is enough water available for essential needs while repairs are underway, everyone in Ashhurst is asked to use water only when absolutely necessary.

It's fine to use water for these things

  • Drinking
  • Cooking
  • Preparing infant formula
  • Hand washing
  • Essential medical needs

Please avoid using water for these things

  • Doing laundry
  • Running dishwashers
  • Taking long showers or baths
  • Using water blasters
  • Watering gardens or lawns
  • Washing cars
  • Any other non-essential water use

Residents can continue to use their toilets, but if possible, avoid flushing after every use. As the saying goes, if it's yellow, let it mellow.

Council crews are working as quickly as possible to restore normal service and are closely monitoring reservoir levels throughout the day.

We are in contact with Ashhurst School and local businesses to keep them updated on the situation.

At this stage, repairs are expected to be completed later tonight. If the repair takes longer than anticipated or reservoir levels become critically low, water tankers will be arranged for the community.

We appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation while this essential repair is carried out. By reducing water use today, residents can help ensure there is enough water available for everyone until the repair is complete.
