If you’re looking for a way to show your dog some love this Valentine's Day, Council’s free microchipping and dog education event might be the answer.

After a successful Happy Woof Year event in 2023, our animal management team is returning to Linklater Reserve on Saturday 10 February, this time, with a Smooch Your Pooch edition.

The event will run from 10am to 12pm and will once again include free microchipping, giveaways and a free BBQ.

This year, owners will need to sign up through our website before the event to get their dogs microchipped. This is to ensure the process is quick and runs smoothly so dogs and their owners do not have to wait and can continue enjoying the other festivities of the day.

Chief Customer Officer Kerry-Lee Probert says getting your dog microchipped is not only required by law but is one of the many responsibilities of being a good dog owner.

“If your dog is microchipped and ever gets lost or goes on an unexpected walkabout, the dog can be taken to the nearest vet or our animal management team can be called and the dog can be identified and promptly reunited with its family.”

Sticking to the day's theme, there will also be a photo booth for dogs and their dog owners to get the perfect Valentine's Day photo.

Our team will also be chatting with the public about dog registrations, how to adopt a dog from the animal shelter, and ways dog owners can have their say on what matters to them in both our Dog Control Policy consultation and the upcoming long-term plan consultation.

As Linklater Reserve is a popular off-leash dog spot, we’re asking people whose dogs may not be comfortable in off-leash settings to keep their dog on a lead.
