Applications for Palmy's Tuia Te Here Tangata 2024 mentorship programme are now open, providing a unique opportunity for Māori youth, ages 18 to 25, to set sail on a journey of personal and professional growth in the world of local government.

Tuia Te Here Tangata, which loosely means 'weave the people together,' is not just another programme; its one that opens the doors of local government in Palmerston North to the next generation of aspiring rangatahi.

So, what does the programme look like for successful applicants?

  • Mentorship by local leaders: You’ll be able to learn the ropes of leadership from the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Palmerston North. You'll be guided, inspired, and supported in your quest to make a difference in your community.
  • Professional development: Tuia Te Here Tangata isn't just about theory; it's about real-world experience. You’ll be provided with practical tools, training, and resources to sharpen your skills and turn your ideas into actions.
  • Joining a network of like-minded young leaders: You’ll meet other rising stars who are interested in local government and passionate about creating a brighter future for their communities too.

The time commitment for this programme is generally around five hours a month. You’ll also be expected to attend a hui around the motu every second month.

Applying is easy. Just tell us a bit about yourself, your dreams, and why you want to be a part of this programme.

Applications close on Saturday 18 November, 2023.
